Why Keep Notes?
Notekeeping makes troubleshooting possible, as you can post your notes online for others to review and give feedback. With no notes, more advanced mead makers can only speculate as to where you went wrong.
Another reason to keep notes is the ability to reproduce your recipes. You may have just made the tastiest mead in history, but without the notes to recreate it, it will be lost to time.
What Notes to Keep
You should keep a note of the following data:
- Date batch created
- Batch size
- Full ingredient list and measurements
- Method statement detailing all steps taken
- Original Gravity
- Ferment temperature and gravity checks
- Final Gravity
- Stabilising dates and doses
- Backsweetening dates and measures
- Bottling Gravity
